Junior Picture 1 - club of the year

Alford Golf Club Juniors Section

Alford Golf Club is committed to promoting and encouraging children to play golf. With the emphasis on fun, it is hoped to engender an enthusiasm for golf in youngsters which will continue throughout their lives. Initiatives such as Clubgolf are already in place with the help of parents, club members, Clubgolf Scotland and the SGU. In 2008, Alford Junior Section won the Junior Club of the year award.

We have a very strong junior section which was highlighted in last year’s Gents Club Championship with the top 4 places all being held by juniors. Ray Gordon, managed to come out on top and take the title of Alford Golf Club Gents Club Champion 2013. Ray has been through all the stages of the clubgolf coaching and in October 2013 was selected to go on the Grampian Houston trip to America.

I was lucky enough to be picked as one of 12 junior golfers from the north and the north east to go to Houston for 10 days in October. During our time in Houston we played 9 different golf courses including Carlton Woods, Shadow Hawk, University of Texas golf course, River Oaks where Bruce Davidson, the founder of the trip teaches and also Redstone where the Shell Houston Open has been played in the past. We also received luxuries of a tour round the University of Texas and also went to a Houston Rockets basketball game where we sat in the owner’s box! Just before we played River Oaks we were given an expedition from 1998 Masters and 1998 Open championship winner Mark O'Meara. As you can tell, it really was a once in a lifetime trip!!”
